don't cry, shopgirl. don't cry.

"Sometimes I wonder about my life. I lead a small life - well, valuable, but small - and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven't been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around? I don't really want an answer. I just want to send this cosmic question out into the void. So good night, dear void."
Ten points if you can name the quote above {although the picture probably gives it away}.

This is going to be a silly post, but bear with me, okay? Thanks. There's something about familiarity. Whether it's being with family, talking with a friend who I trust, or just being in a place or with people that I know, that idea of familiarity is something I need. And for me, it can even come from a movie.

Last night I came home in a weird mood. Work had been a little stressful, I was hungry, and I had lots of Relief Society stuff weighing on my mind. So I slipped on my favorite, favorite movie, "You've Got Mail." And the minute Kathleen Kelly came onto my computer screen and I heard "Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies," I felt like I was somewhere familiar. Silly? Yeah, probably, but you've got to understand that I've had very strong feelings for this movie since I was ten years old. It makes me feel like I'm at home, or somewhere familiar. I know that Joe Fox and Kathleen will always end up together, I know what it means to "go to the mattresses," and I know that someday I will visit Riverside Park with my dog Brinkley.

And once the movie ended, {don't tell my mom but it was about 3:30 in the AM}, I knew my world would be okay, because it was okay in Joe and Kathleen's world.

So here's to familiarity and all that comes with it. The safety and the knowledge that every little thing will work itself out. Because it always does, guys! It always does.

  1. Is it bad/sad to admit that I watched this movie this week for the exact same reason? Also, your quote is one of my two favorite from the movie!

    Thanks Alexa!
